EY- ELEMENTARY

EY2 KG

First trip of the year!

The first field trip of the year for our EY2 and Kindergarten children was successful and very exciting. At first, the children were all enthusiastic about going on a big bus, which was a first for most of them. We had the opportunity to pet and feed some animals and then we took part in an autumn fruit treasure hunt. We made apple marmalade as a group and then took part in an obstacle course. What the children also really enjoyed is that at the end of our trip we were given the opportunity to see how a horse is saddled! The children became more and more curious throughout the day asking more and more questions about things they saw! It was a great day!

Ziogas Western City

Our Grade 1 Superstars went on a wonderful outdoor adventure to Ziogas Western City! It was a beautiful day for our first field trip that tied in perfectly with our current transdisciplinary theme of Sharing the Planet. The students had the opportunity to ride horses, do some target shooting and archery, as well as visit with the farm animals. They went on a nature hike and identified living and non-living things while using their senses to take in the sounds, sights, smells and textures of the landscape. We had a whole lot of FUN while being caring and respectful visitors of this fantastic zoo park.

Kazakis farm & Avant Garde Sports Center

Grade 2 visited Kazakis farm and learned about so many products that are produced from vines and grapes. They learned about the machines used to produce these products, too. The students loved the tasty pies and delicious ntolmathakia that we were kindly offered.

We continued our trip by visiting Avant Garde Sports Center to take part in an exciting treasure hunt and a survivor activity.

Ichnilatis Oneiron

On Friday, 3rd grade visited Ichnilatis Oneiron at Dedas Horse Riding Club. It was an amazing experience and we hope to go back soon! The students had the opportunity to explore different Greek traditions and go on a series of fun adventures. First, we went on a treasure hunt for different kinds of grapes! The kids loved exploring the natural environment and they did an amazing job with the hunt. Later, we helped take care of horses which everyone enjoyed and then, we made a natural collage with sticks, glue, pine cones and vine leaves. Our last activity before horse riding was a blast! We got to make the so-called ‘moustos’, which is simply grape juice! But guess what! Some of them did it the traditional way by using their bare feet to stomp on them. At last, we took the juice we made and used it to make cookies that are known as ‘moustokouloura’. What a day!

Bambola beach

Grade 4 had a brilliant day at Bambola beach last week! We swam, played frisbee, beach volleyball and football, we had pizza and sunbathed. The field trip was a great success, albeit our concerns for chilled temperatures. And in the words of Jacques Cousteau: the sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.

Student energy was high as our 5th graders prepared for their journey to WE Sports and the Museum of Illusions. They arrived at WE Sports and the kids exhibited great excitement to rollerblade, try out skateboarding, archery, rock climbing, and some hula hoop tumbling! The students were thrilled, and mid-morning snacks provided them with the extra energy they needed to take risks and learn new skills! Back on the bus, they headed to the Museum of Illusions. After a scenic port-side lunch, they marched to the Museum of Illusions for some mind-blowing optical illusions that produced wonder. “How does that work?” and “How can that be?” These were the words that displayed student curiosity!

Mount Olympus

Touching the face of the Gods.  Last week, Pinewood seniors made the trek up Mount Olympus.  Carrying their warm clothes and showing just a tad bit of anxiety , the seniors explored the fabulous wild wonders of the mountain.  The trip offered adventure, challenge, bonding, and reflection.  The first day and night, the group was together gaining 900 meters of elevation until reaching the beautiful refuge of Petrostouga.  The next day, the seniors separated —  one group traversing the mountain to the stunning  refuge of Spilios Agapitos,  while their counterparts climbed up to the Mouses Plateau and spent the second night at the Apostilidis refuge.  There, the views were spectacular and the students felt a deep appreciation for the beauty of Greece.  The third day, the Apostilidis group descended to the Spilios Agapitos refuge, reuniting with their fellow classmates and together the group continued downward to the small waystation of Prionia.  Together the group had a final afternoon feast together to celebrate their accomplishment.  Everyone was a little sore, but no one complained about their exciting adventure.  Efharisto to Mr. Terzidis and Mr. Paschalidis for planning this trip.
