Dear Pinewood Community,
Pinewood – The American International School of Thessaloniki, Greece is an independent, non-profit PK-12 school offering an internationally-enriched American college preparatory curriculum and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program to students from the international and local communities. At Pinewood, students receive a student-centered education that challenges them to develop, embrace and utilize the 4 C’s in educating students for their future: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.
These ‘super skills’ are the foundation for 21st century learning and are embedded throughout the Pinewood curriculum and evidenced in real ways each day. Whether it is a group of Kindergarten children communicating by sharing their thoughts, ideas, questions and solutions on the topic of space travel; or a class of middle school students collaborating by honing their expertise in green engineering to insulate a model home; or an IB student thinking critically about the principles of mechanics through an originally-created choreography based on the theory of rotational motion and relative to the core elements of dance; or an elementary class creatively trying new approaches to understanding metaphor and irony in the works of Roald Dahl, Pinewood students are highly engaged in learning that matters.
I am also honored to share that Pinewood successfully and confidently completed the requirements for re-accreditation both by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the International Baccalaureate Organization last year. Indeed, these formal recognitions validate our achievements in delivering our mission – to offer students a progressive, personalized American international education centered on academic excellence in each student’s journey towards self-actualization.
I look forward to working collaboratively with each of you to inspire our students to learn and grow together this year as Pinewood aims towards all students becoming inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, teachers and staff, I wish each of our families and students a cooperative, dynamic academic year! Your support is deeply appreciated.
